Al-Nasir was the 36th Caliph of the Abbasid dynasty, ruling from 1180 to 1225 CE. He was born in Baghdad in 1158 CE and ascended to the throne at the age of 22. Al-Nasir is known for his patronage of the arts and sciences, as well as his efforts to strengthen the Abbasid caliphate through military and political reforms.
During his reign, Al-Nasir undertook several military campaigns to expand and defend the Abbasid empire. He successfully defended against the invading Khwarezmian Empire and launched campaigns against the Seljuks and the Crusaders. Al-Nasir was also known for his patronage of scholarship and literature, and he founded several educational institutions and libraries. He is remembered as a ruler who promoted intellectualism and scientific inquiry during the Islamic Golden Age and is known as the last of the good caliphs.
